The New Theme for the 2013-2014 School Year

I just received the announcement today. Start. Your. Planning.

During the March CISVA Principals’ Meeting, principals and members of the RCAV and Superintendent’s Office staff met to discern a theme for our 2013-2014 school year. The development of a theme is a wonderful community building activity that strives to integrate all that we do throughout the school year. As this meeting occurred the day after the election of our new Pope, the discussion was inspired by what had just occurred. The words ‘humble, walk, and hope’ resonated throughout all of the group sharing.

Many spoke about the need to ‘discern the signs of the times’ as we eagerly await Pope Francis sharing his hopes and prayers for our Church in today’s world. One particular comment regarding the need for a ‘state of being theme’ rather than a ‘doing theme’ as we await direction from the Pope was a pivotal moment in our discernment. Thus, the wording for the theme “WALK HUMBLY WITH OUR LORD” has now been approved by Archbishop Miller.

We are excited about the possibilities for developing this theme and hope that it will continue to inspire us to walk always in the presence of the Lord. As Pope Francis, during his first Mass as head of the Roman Catholic Church, stated, “This is the first thing God said to Abraham: ‘Walk in my presence and be blameless.’ Walking: our life is a journey and when we stop, there is something wrong; walking always in the presence of the Lord, in the light of the Lord, seeking to live with that blamelessness, which God asks of Abraham in his promise.”

As we live out this theme in our school and parish communities next year, let us continue to bring to mind what is asked of us in scripture: “What does the Lord require of you but to do justice, and to love kindness, and to walk humbly with your God. (Micah 6:8).”
